Cabinet Art

The cabinet is stenciled in black and red enamel, over an off-white base with black webbing. Since the Love Machine is based on a 1960's EM pin, I wanted the cabinet art to be stylistically consistent with the period. The left and right sides of the machine are mirror images.

As Chris and Kat's careers in New Mexico brought them together, we decided early on that the machine should have strong Southwest and Native American themes. I wanted the cabinet art to establish these as you approach the machine. I used the image of Kokopelli on the head because it is one of the most familiar Native American icons, and because he is associated with fertility and weddings. Kokopelli also appears on the playfield, connecting the cabinet and playfield artwork.

I wanted a simple, geometric design for the cabinet sides. The pattern and colors are meant to suggest Navajo blanket designs.

The coin door, buttons, and shooter were painted to match the black and red colors of the stencils. This photo was taken before the final coindoor art was applied.
